Marketing Ventures Take Flight!
Successful Marketing with Printed Flyers and Free Flyer Templates
The free flyer templates I found on the web worked great for our band's gig. We designed them ourselves, handed them out and had a packed house! [The club] booked us for three more gigs!

Flyers are one of the most affordable forms of advertising and one of the easiest to produce. With the
flexibility to be handed out, mailed, stacked or posted, flyers are a fantastic marketing tool for those
needing to get their promotion out while on a tight budget.
Appropriate for many occasions, flyers can be used to announce open houses, sales, new products,
performances, grand openings, bake sales, new business locations, community gatherings and a host of
other scenarios. To make sure your flyer is ready to take on your marketing venture, use graphics
programs or free flyer templates that are downloadable from the internet and follow these three simple
design rules. This will ensure that your flyer will demand the attention of targeted prospects and make
your marketing venture take flight!
- Use a Strong Headline. A strong flyer will have a short and exciting headline (in large print) that will turn heads and peak curiosity. A less than tempting headline will more than likely cause your entire flyer to be overlooked no matter how great the promotion. Being as strict as possible on word count in your headline is imperative considering your viewers will usually be reading the flyer while walking by. Therefore, only flyers using short headlines have a chance of being read.
- Keep Body Text To a Minimum. Body text follows the headline and explains your promotion with minimal wording. Too much text in this section will loose your reader's attention, so less is always better. Here you will answer the age old questions of who, what, where, when (why and how if applicable). Even supplying this information in a short bulleted list will hit a home run with readers since it will help them to read your flyer much faster!
- Take Advantage of Eye-catching Graphics. The best flyers use attention-grabbing photos, clipart or illustrations that are relative to the promotion in order to break up text on the page. This makes your flyer more appealing to the eye and easier to read. There are many sites on the internet that can be of great use to you if you do not have your own artwork. Depending on your budget, many sites offer free images and some require a paid subscription for permission to download and use their artwork. Websites offering free flyer templates may also have a link to free graphic downloads, therefore, you may be able to find everything in one stop. Whatever the case, it is best to do your research and see what is available to you that will give your flyer's design that extra professional touch!
Similar to a poster, you should review your flyer's design from approximately 10 feet away. If you can't read the headline or if the overall look is boring, meek or too complicated then you should take more time to work on it. More often than not, if you cannot easily read it, then your prospects will have trouble reading it too. Free flyer templates from the internet may already have a layout that works well for your promotion and just needs your text inserted. If not, Simple additions like placing borders around text or changing your fonts may be all that you need to help visually separate your information for easier reading. Should your flyer still have too much empty or "white" space, then the inclusion of a coupon may be beneficial not only to solve your design dilemma, but to give your flyer more value so it has a better chance of being held on to.
